NEWS MAKER Syria's Hafez al-Assad Arabs Lose In New World Order SYRIA'S Presiden Hafez al-Assad said in a speech published on Wenesday that Arab states are losing out in the new world order envisioned by the West. Assad also accused Israel of working to occupy more Arab land in the speech made on Tuesday at an Iftar banquet during the Moslem holy month of Ramadhan. The Syrian leader said the world was going through a period of changed whic he likened to an earthquake which has not yet ended. "He who reads those changes will find that the Arabs have not won anything, rather the winners are the enemies of the Arabs," Assad said in the speech carried by official newspapers. But he said he was optimistic that Arabs would not capitulate. "We existed before the inception of the communist and capita- list camps... and there is nothing that can prevent us from resu- ming our march and role." He said that Israel was continuing its efforst to occupy more Arab land, despite recent efforts to bring peace to the Middle East. (Rtr). Treasures Galore At Ancient Japanese Tomb RESEARCHERS said on Wednesday they had discovered a treasure trove of 2.000 ornaments and swords at a Fifth Century A.D. tomb in western Japan which suggests strong Korean in- fluence over the Japanese imperial family. The gold and silver jewellery, 15 gilded swords and horse orna- ments were unearthed at the Minezuka Mound Tomb in Habikino near Osaka, city researchers said. The treasure was discovered in the smaller of two chambers inside the Minezuka mound, long thought to be the tomb of a Fifth Century emperor. Records show that grave robbers entered the chamber in the 13th Century and scattered the remains but appa- rently left most of the treasure intact. The identities of those buried in the two chambers are not known. The one in the lesser chamber was an adult in the 20s or 30s. Archaeologists said the treasures indicate the person was a member of the imperial family, but not an emperor, who died in the late Fifth Century. For the corpse in the main chamber, various archaeologists have suggested on of six emperors who reigned between the late Fifth to the early Sixth Century. (Reuter) Waaah.....
